London, Al Fresco. Take it Outside!

With the sun shining and temperatures set to a gentle sizzle, August is the month to experience London – al fresco!

Leathermarket Gardens are within meandering distance from the hotel. Every lunchtime, usually armed with freshly prepared lunch from one of the many nearby cafes and delis, locals descend on this popular Bermondsey green space. Sun worshippers, claim your bench and catch some rays among the blooms and butterflies.  Or, if all that sunshiney vitamin D you’re soaking in has you feeling active, play a game or two at one of the four free-to-use hard tennis courts in nearby Tanner Street Park – just a two minute walk from South Point Suites.

While you’re staying with us at South Point Suites, a saunter on The South Bank is a must. A couple of top tips for your Thames-side adventure? Firstly, a visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hall Roof Garden is always on our list of recommendations. Part city allotment, part urban oasis, the gardens are a surprising find and an utter delight. Built in partnership with The Eden Project and maintained by volunteers, a trip here is good for the soul!

Secondly, The Tate Modern is one of our favourite cultural hotspots in the area. Devoting an afternoon to moseying around the gallery spaces is highly recommended BUT – head outside via the South Tanks exit and you’ll find the Superflex ‘One, Two, Three, Swing!’ installation. Designed by Danish artists collective SUPERFLEX, the three-person swings were originally housed in The Turbine Hall but they’ve made their way outside for the summer and will remain there, free to use, until October 2018. Enjoy!

Closer to home, there’s free jazz every Sunday afternoon (1pm – 4pm) in Bermondsey Square. Grab a coffee from The Watch House and enjoy a relaxing summer Sunday the Bermondsey Street way. Or – pop in to The Giddy Grocer and order The Ploughman’s Picnic. Spread your blanket and get down to some top notch outdoor snacking! Then, of course,  there’s Pique Nique. Although not strictly al fresco dining (we’ve cheated slightly!), Picque Nique make it into our round-up because, well – the restaurant is nestled in the corner of Tanner Street Park, it’s called Pique Nique and the fine French cuisine they serve up daily is to die for.

And, as though all that’s not enough to tempt you to pay us a visit this August, we’re offering up to 25% off all August stays at South Point Suites this summer! Book from 23rd July. Click here for more info.

See you soon! (And bring your sun hat).
