Food & Drink

Bermondsey Street is a foodie’s dream. There are characterful English pubs, French bistros, Spanish tapas, Turkish grills, Italian restaurants and as many gourmet cakes and sandwiches as you can munch. And, if you’re after a craft cocktail, the perfect cup of coffee or a boozy hot chocolate – well, it’s your lucky day.

In the morning, stop off at the espresso bar at The Watch House. An historic landmark in itself, The Watch House was once a shelter for the men working as graveyard guards at St Mary Magdalene Church. Now though, thoughtfully restored and beautifully repurposed, The Watch House is a popular spot for casual coffee breaks.

We Recommend…

With the choice of treats available on Bermondsey Street, you’ll probably want to leave room for a sweet course after every meal. Tempting at any time of day, pop by Comptoir Gourmand and their tantalising patisserie cabinet. Who says there’s no such thing as after-breakfast dessert?

It’s worth extending your stay at South Point Suites just to work your way around the ever- growing list of London Bridge lunch spots! There’s an eaterie for every palette, mood and season. London’s famous Borough Market is a must-visit, as is nearby Maltby Street Market and relative newcomer, Flat Iron Square in Borough, caters to every culinary desire with its sprawl of restaurants, street food trucks and specialist food and drink vendors.

Deliciousness from Dusk til Dawn

For dinner, there’s something for everyone too. Explore the authentic French menu at Casse Croute, get together with friends for a leisurely Spanish feast courtesy of Jose Pizzaro or join the pizza-hungry throng at Franco Manca. Just a few steps from our front door, Italian restaurant Flour & Grape is a South Point Suites favourite. Dishing up fresh pasta dishes with thoughtfully suggested wine pairings, this is comfort food at its best.

Sample locally made gin, craft beer, bespoke cocktails and boozy hot drinks at your pick of neighbourhood pubs and bars. Try a Grapefruit Gimlet at The Garrison or a pint of London brewed beer at The Hide Bar. The champagne cocktails at Village East are divine and for the perfect  wind-down nightcap, we recommend a ‘Don’t Tell The Kids’ hot chocolate from Chapter 72!
